About Sam Charrington & CloudPulse Strategies
My name is Sam Charrington. I am an analyst, advisor, consultant, and the principal of CloudPulse Strategies.
What I Do
Through CloudPulse, my work primarily involves working with tech executives to help them create and execute strategies to cut through the noise and drive understanding and adoption. The types of projects I tend to work on are things like new product introduction strategies, marketing plans, messaging strategies, and content creation projects like white papers or webinars. I also greatly enjoy working closely with entrepreneurs and founders in an advisory capacity.
What I Bring
I bring to my work a unique combination of strategic insight, marketing savvy, and technology depth. For clients, this means that I can figure out what needs to be done and how to execute it, and I understand at a very fundamental level the underlying technology issues and implications. In addition, I am very hands-on and know how to get things done.
Sam Hearts Cloud
While my technology interests are very broad, I’m particularly interested in cloud computing and big data.
I’ve been speaking and writing about cloud since “the beginning” as an industry advocate and insider. In 2008, I co-founded CloudCamp, a global series of “unconferences” where early adopters of Cloud Computing technologies exchange ideas. I’ve spoken at numerous cloud conferences, including Next-Generation Data Center, CloudWorld, CloudConnect and others.
One of the perennial favorites here on my blog is a poem I wrote called “The Blind Men and the Cloud.” The poem has since appeared in several books.
Before founding CloudPulse Strategies I was VP of product management and marketing for Appistry, responsible for the company’s overall marketing efforts, including marketing and brand strategy, product marketing and product management. Before joining Appistry, I was an early employee at Plumtree Software, where I made pivotal contributions in a variety of sales, marketing and executive roles as the company grew from pre-revenue to over $80 million in annual income. Earlier, I held sales and marketing positions in AT&T’s Business Multimedia Systems organization.
I hold a bachelor’s degree in computer and systems engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and a master’s degree in electrical engineering from Northwestern University.
On a Personal Note
I currently live in St. Louis, Missouri, and have lived in the Bay Area, Chicago and New York. Besides entrepreneurship and technology, I’m also passionate about travel and world culture. I’ve visited over twenty countries, most with my family, and serve on the board of directors of the International Institute of St. Louis, a United Way backed non-profit best known for the services we provide to immigrants and refugees and for our annual event, the Festival of Nations.
